Parenting Coordination
In keeping with The Family Center's mission to enhance individuals within the context of family we provide Parenting Coordination to families in transition. Parenting Coordination is an intervention for helping families deal with conflicts in domestic relations proceedings before the courts. The Parenting Cordination model assists families in structuring, implementing, and monitoring viable parenting plans, tailored to each families individual needs and unique circumstances; it reduces litigation costs when a high conflict situation threatens a family's adjustment process.
Parenting Coordinators at The Family Center are Licensed Clinical Psychologists with training and expertise in the following areas:
-
Conflict resolution theory and techniques;
-
Child development, psychological theory and research, including adjustment to divorce;
-
Family dynamics, family systems theory;
-
Domestic relations law;
-
Familiarity with dynamics of domestic violence and associated safety and intervention considerations;
-
Parenting education and techniques.
The Parenting Coordinator is a neutral third party who both parents agree upon and is then court-appointed. In a written agreement the parties delineate the scope of authority of the Parent Coordinator. The Parenting Coordinator can be appointed to address any disputed child-related issues except custody.
